I am sturdy;
a pinnacle of elitist individuality,
rejecting external influence,
and condemning those who can’t, don’t, or won’t.
I am empty;
void of immutable character,
moldable to all circumstances,
and ever-filled with ambient matter.
“Does my sturdiness, then, only protect a vacuum?
Is insistent vacancy merely the safest route?
What does this leave for art?
How can the self be expressed when it’s constantly overwritten?”,
Mr. Subconscious bubbles up in dismay.
“Fixed positions are weak and unreliable.
In the long view, only adaptability matters.
Seeing all things from all viewpoints prevents stagnation”,
Mr. Reason holds firm.
